What The Client Wanted
An existing client approached us as they had a project at the Coca Cola building in Milton Keynes which is local to us.
The building presented signs of severe weathering due to years of UV (ultra violet) light damage from the sun, with certain areas showing scabbing and flaking of the existing coatings.
The areas identified with the loose coatings were to be removed prior to recoating the elevation.
What We Did
Firstly our operatives attended site to jet wash the cladding in order to remove the flaking coatings. This was done using a 4000psi jet wash with a turbo nozzle which gives a ‘hot knife through butter’ effect. As you can imagine, all the loose coatings made a lot mess as we expected and so we implemented a ‘clean as you go’ attitude to save time and ensure the site remained as tidy as possible throughout the duration of the job.
Once all the loose coatings had been removed we could then commence with the airless coatings. We chose airless as this is a far quicker method of spraying, covering from 5x to 25x more than our high quality HVLP (High Velocity Low Pressure) guns. This however does have an impact on the finish so for time sensitive projects this is ideal.
The only obstacle we had with this project was a balcony which we had to boom over using a cherry picker in order to reach the cladding at the back of it.
The project completion date was nearly compromised because of the rain, however we avoided this problem by ordering a second cherry picker and placed a second team in order to finish on time.
Thanks to quick thinking and professionalism we managed to finish the job on-time and on-budget!
