Spraying technicians on access cables

Paint spraying is a pretty straight forward concept. Assess the damage, prepare the area and complete a full refurbishment. Use these 5 reasons why your spraying business is failing to make your business perform to best of its ability.

Of course, we know more than anyone that it isn’t always that easy but there are a number of things that you can be doing as a spraying business to make your life that little bit easier.

As we approach our 10-year anniversary we are fortunate enough to be operating at such a rate that we already have enough work lined up for the majority of 2017. If you want your business to do the same – just follow a few of these basic steps to help you on your way.

These are our 5 reasons why your spraying business is failing.

Outdated

Since we launched back in 2008 – many things have changed. The influence of people isn’t so strong these days. Instead social media dominates our world and a lot of trade industries, including on site spraying and cladding repairs.

When we first started, our advertising was minimal as you could rely solely on word of mouth and referrals. However, it’s important to change with the times and stay up to date.

Utilise the services of a local website designer and SEO company to help get your company branding and online image out there. Long gone are the days of a basic HTML website. Corporate websites are now far more interactive, mobile friendly, fast and easy to navigate.

Lack of Investment

When I say investment – I do not mean international businessman buying shares in your business. Absolutely not and I would suggest avoiding it unless it was absolutely necessary.

Investing into your business can come in many forms.

Consider your equipment, training, ongoing health and safety, access equipment and anything that you think will benefit you going forward. Investing now could put you ahead of your competitors and allow you to provide a more personal service and meet a wider range of needs.

Poor Staffing

Unfortunately, I can speak from experience when I say that I have employed a number of poor staff members. There is only so much that you can learn about an individual during interviews and reading through CV’s.

It may be worth working with a local recruitment agency that specialises in the placement of construction workers with experience in on site spray painting and cladding cleaning.

Getting the right staff is so important. It allows you to make deadlines, complete projects to a higher standard and leave a lasting impression on your clients.

Poor Equipment

This ties in with the lack of investment really and should not be avoided.

Stay up to date with the industry equipment, new models and any updates. Avoid buying cheaper alternatives because it will cost you more money in the long run. There are many manufacturers of spraying equipment available so make sure that you pick one that meets your needs and work requirements.

Internal Structure

You would be foolish to assume that a business is successful based solely on what services it offers. (Although it is a large majority).

Your internal structure and how your business is organised has more of an effect than you may think. Ensure that your offices are well supplied, clean, accessible and as efficient as possible.

What is your offices internet connection like? Do you have your own data storage facility?

Ensure that the data cabling installation has been completed to a high standard and that any cables are correctly crimped to prevent downtime and poor performance.

Recap

OK then, let’s recap.

Make sure that you keep your business up to date and in touch with current events. Stay up to date with the sources that your customers will go to in search of your services.

Invest in training courses and good equipment. The ongoing training will ensure that your staff members are up to date with industry standards and allow you to provide a better service to your clients.

Employ good people. Do a lot of research into them and work with a local staffing agency.

Avoid low quality, cheap spraying equipment. Invest in the items that will consistently provide results and keep your teams active.

Make sure that your offices are well organised and in the perfect condition to take bookings, place orders and access information.
