Curtain walling is widely used throughout many modern structures that range from car parks to office complexes. Typically, curtain walling does not carry any additional dead load weight and is attached to the floors and columns of a building. Therefore, the majority of curtain walling is lightweight and are often constructed from aluminium.

Since curtain walling is exposed to the elements, overtime its appearance can become weathered. If left untreated, this can have a negative impact not only on the appearance of your building but also on how your business is perceived. Businesses are often reluctant to repair their curtain walling, this is due to the perceived financial expenditure and the expectation that such reparations will have a lengthy and negative impact on the continued operation of the building.

Curtain Walling Facelift RefreshHowever, this simply need not be the case! Respraying curtain walling is a little known and often overlooked means by which the aesthetic appearance of curtain walling can be increased quickly with minimal financial cost. Due to the fact that the overwhelming majority of curtain walling is anodised, dirt can build up and become problematic. This is because a number of cleaning chemicals will actually de-anodise the surface, therefore cleaning the curtain walling in-situ is problematic. Respraying curtain walling provides a means around this, as applying a new coating to the curtain walling will not only improve the overall appearance, it will also increase the longevity of the metalwork, protecting it from further dirt.

When curtain walling has been painted, it is often done using a powder coating. Whilst this method provides exceptional aesthetics, over time due to exposure to the elements and changes in temperature, this coating can fail, resulting in moisture permeating the substrate. The application of another coating to the curtain walling’s surface will not only restore it to its original condition, it will also form a barrier once again protecting the curtain walling from moisture damage.

Perhaps the chief advantage of using respraying as a means of improving the overall appearance of your curtain walling is the diversity of choice available. We provide coating options which include all of the colours contained within the leading colour coding systems, including RAL and the British Standard. If you would like the new coating to match the old one but are unsure of its classification, this is not a problem, with our mobile colour lab we can provide an exact match!
